GROUND
NETWORK AND TECHNICAL OVERVIEW
USN has deployed the first commercially
developed, owned and operated multi-user satellite commercial
ground network. Our Earth-based network permits numerous satellite
users to share a secure telemetry, tracking and control (TT&C)
network for a fraction of the cost of purchasing and operating
a dedicated ground station. Our network is recognized as an
innovative approach to providing TT&C services, for which
we have been awarded a U.S. patent, #5,940,739.
Users subscribe to the system for their specific needs and
"rent" or time-share communication time and technical
support from USN.
The advantages of the communications rental approach with
USN include the following:
- Eliminating unnecessary and costly duplicative
expenditures for customized ground-based systems. USN builds,
maintains and continually modernizes a worldwide satellite
communications network.
- Allowing customers to utilize only those
services that are needed. Instead of building to a peak
mission need, USN can provide tailored services to meet
the evolving needs of various mission phases.
- Eliminating duplicated personnel for operations,
maintenance and technical support. Our staff supports all
of these key function areas.
- Through our "fee for service"
approach, customers pay only for successful satellite contacts
they request.
- Customers have access to ongoing research
conducted by USN, aimed at providing a steady stream of
improvements in overall system capacity, network speed,
technical support and new communication modalities.
